This is Hong Kong Lil, a native of Kowloon, Hong Kong and a charming example
of delicate Chinese craftmanship. She was found by Mum & Dad during their visit to Kowloon, December 1999. Kowloon
is an amazing contrast to Hong Kong Island and presents the essence of Chinese culture as to the style of homes, streets,
markets, culture and street life.
Mum & Dad learnt a lot about historical Chinese culture during their
visit to Kowloon. While there , they stayed with David & Armi & family at their apartment in the Monkey Hill area
of Kowloon. They learnt a lot about the day to day
practicalities of living in the area!! Did you know that Monkeys snatch schoolbags and handbags on Monkey Hill, Kowloon?
In Hong Kong, Tsim Sha Tsui is the main shopping area covering the
neighbourhood around Victoria harbour near the Star Ferry Pier. This where Mum found Hong Kong Lil. James Bond was filmed
sipping a martini in "The Man With The Golden Gun" at a nearby local Tsim Sha Tsui tourist trap called "Bottoms
Up" on Hankow Road. Mum and Dad preferred the street markets, though, and thus did not get to sip any Martinis!
